Bats & Birds

Bats & Birds

Along the edge of the vineyard, bluebird boxes and bat houses are full of residents that feast on bugs, day and night, keeping the insect population in check and maintaining the natural balance of our vineyard.

Hawks and owls keep the rodent population down with the hawks taking the day shift and the owls taking the night shift. An owl can consume 1,000 rodents in a season, which can make a serious dent in the rodent population.

We still need to use some gopher traps but save the carcasses in a deep freezer for our friends at Hungry Owl Project. Here, the carcasses are fed to the orphaned and injured owls that are being rehabilitated.
