The Honig postcards are our most powerful marketing tool at Honig Winery. They are fun to produce, entertaining to the eye, fairly inexpensive to create, and aligned with our sustainable model, due to the minimal amount of materials they require. We find that they are not only effective in getting people to remember us, but most importantly, in making people laugh.
When Michael Honig started working for Honig Vineyard and Winery in 1984, he was 22 years old and significantly younger than his winery principal peers, however, many of the wine buyers or sommeliers he was selling wine to, were of his generation. He came up with the idea of creating the Honig postcards as a way to relate to these younger customers and to show that the people behind the winery had a personality and a sense of humor. As the postcards became a symbol of Honig and developed a strong following, we decided to create a new one every year with a different theme. The characters in the postcards are winery employees and the cards are always produced in-house.
The 2008 release is titled “Honig Rocks”. This rock n’ roll postcard is unique in more than one way. For the first time, we decided to include ALL of our employees in the photo shoot. However, since there were too many of us to fit in one card, we created three different postcards. We also felt that this also was a way to commemorate the three decades that Honig has been making wine (like three rock n’ roll albums). And since people are always asking us how we go about creating the postcards, we decided to shoot a video of the making of the Honig postcard and post it on our website as well. Click here to view the video http://www.honigwine.com/rockvideo.
You can see our postcards on our website at http://www.honigwine.com/postcards (including the new three rock cards). They are also readily available in printed form at the winery. We are always looking for original postcard ideas so if you have any, please send them to us.
Rock it Honig!!!
